The Spaniards arrived in the 'Americas' (the Bahamas) in 1492. And in 1542 - they arrived in the Phillipines coming from the Pacific coast of Mexico ! There the Spaniards encountered Chinese
maritime traders. Until 1814, Spanish ships sailed from Mexico's Pacific coast to the Phillipines to export silver which the Chinese used for currency in China. In exchange, the Chinese
traders in the Phillipines paid with silk textiles and porcelain made in China. The point: The Chinese were present in South China Sea area as a major economic factor. --- Up to today - in
tropical Latin America the formal white shirt-jacket worn by men is called LA FILIPINA : It is the typical traditional jacket worn in China - which the Spaniard had copied from the Chinese
traders in the Phillipines!
